Benny Sena
June 3, 1947 – September 25, 1966
PFC Benny Sena Killed in Action – PFC Benny E. Sena, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrés Sena of Albuquerque, who enlisted in the US Marine Corps on his 18th birthday, was killed Monday, July 25, 1966 in Vietnam. His parents said he was engaged in action against Viet Cong guerillas when fatally wounded. PFC Sena had been wounded in action February 27, receiving shrapnel wounds in his foot and elbow, and had just been returned to action June 16, after recuperation in Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart. PFC Sena, who graduated from Valley High School June 1, 1965, turned 18 June 3 and proceeded to enlist. His father said they asked him why the Marines, why not the Army, but their son replied, “The Marines are what I want, and the Marines are what I’m going to be.” When he received his orders for Vietnam, Mr. Sena said their son didn’t say anything. In Vietnam, he was assigned to the First Platoon, G Company, Second Battalion of the Ninth Marine Division. His other survivors, besides his parents of 8102 Edith NW, are two sisters, Loretta and Juliet Sena; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Abundio Trujillo, all of Albuquerque. Funeral services, to be held here, will be announced by Salazar and Sons Mortuary. His body is expected to arrive in about 10 days.
Funeral services for PFC Benny E. Sena will be Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Alameda. 30 Burial with full military honors Will follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Marines for the local contingent we’ll service pallbearers. Rose resources will be recited tonight at 8 PM at the Salazar and Sons mortuary.
